Flying to Lagos: tips and information for your trip
Lagos, the previous capital of Nigeria, is a bustling city, and together with Cairo, ranks amongst the largest cities of Africa. Lagos is Nigeria's administrative and economic centre, but it is still considered the commercial and cultural capital of Nigeria with the Nigerian film industry, affectionately known as 'Nollywood', being centred here. It is also the chief port of Nigeria.
The city has three major islands: Ikoyi, Victoria and the main Lagos Island, which is linked to the other, two islands by bridges. Lagos has an average daytime temperature of 25°C, with March being the hottest month and July the coolest. Dusty Harmattan winds are prominent in the dry season, which extends from November until March.
When visiting Lagos, you will be experiencing the true Nigerian life: friendly locals, a somewhat adventurous way of transportation, and last but not least: beautiful beaches. As one can expect in a city this size, there are plenty of shopping opportunities as well, with a few remarkably large shopping centres. On a more cultural note, the National Museum of Nigeria contains many specimens of Nigerian art, mostly pieces of statuary and carvings, remarkable for their variety and quality. It is not to be missed either!
