Fly more sustainably

By using our offers for more sustainable air travel, you can reduce the emissions of your flight by using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and/or contributing to high-quality climate protection projects.

Offset carbon emissions now

Book your flight and travel more sustainably: With our offers for more sustainable flying, you can reduce your flight-related CO2 emissions by using sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and offset any remaining CO2 emissions by contributing to climate protection projects directly during the booking.

You can easily reduce the CO2 emissions of completed flights at any time by using sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and offset any remaining CO2 emissions by contributing to climate protection projects.

Make your flight more sustainable from the moment you book

Depending on your destination, you can either make your flight more sustainable during the booking process with just one click or you can choose the Green Fare.

Depending on how much you want to contribute and how quickly the measures are to take effect, you can choose one of our three options:

  • Offsetting of flight-related carbon dioxide emissions by contributing to high-quality climate protection projects
  • Reduction of flight-related carbon dioxide emissions through the use of sustainable aviation fuels
  • Combination of both

This gives you the individual option of making your trip more sustainable.

Green Fares for flights within Europe

If you choose a Green Fare, your flight will be made more sustainable by a fixed combination of the use of sustainable aviation fuels (20% reduction in flight-related carbon dioxide emissions) and a contribution to high-quality climate protection projects (80% compensation of flight-related carbon dioxide emissions).

Individual options when booking

If Green Fares is not available for your flight, then you have the option to individually and simply choose the desired ratio of the carbon dioxide reduction and offsetting share during the booking process.

Three options, one goal: to fly more sustainably

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is not produced from fossil fuels, but from renewable energy sources, such as used cooking oils and fats or from agricultural waste. Compared to conventional kerosene, SAF saves at least 80% of greenhouse gas emissions along the entire value chain and therefore directly reduces your flight-related carbon dioxide emissions. To fully reduce carbon dioxide emissions, we use a specific amount of SAF.

The raw materials used to produce SAF do not conflict with food or animal feed and are subject to strict sustainability criteria, checked by independent auditors. All sustainable aviation fuels used by the Lufthansa Group comply with the EU Renewable Energy Directive 2 (RED II).

The Lufthansa Group promotes climate protection projects worldwide in collaboration with the providers myclimate, Climate Partners, SQUAKE and climate Austria. Climate protection projects include the restoration of peatlands in Germany, the use of energy-saving cookers in African countries or technical solutions such as the storage of CO2 in concrete or pyrolitically produced fertilizer, so-called biochar. All projects ensure that, over the long term, either CO2 emissions are reduced or removed from the atmosphere. Environmental projects outside of Europe are certified to the highest international standards: Gold Standard or Plan Vivo. Furthermore, the effects and quality of local, European environmental projects are ensured by the domestic standards, such as MoorFutures, or the CH VER guidelines.

With your contribution, not only do you help with climate protection, but you also contribute to more biodiversity and improved living conditions for local people.

By selecting this option, you ensure that part of your contribution goes towards climate protection projects and the rest into the use of Sustainable Aviation fuel (SAF). This allows you to choose an efficient combination for more sustainable travel.
