Sports equipment
Are you planning an active holiday abroad and do you wish to carry your own sports equipment with you? We will transport your equipment safely to its final destination, with or without surcharge depending on the fare.
How do I transport sports equipment?
You’re allowed to transport your sports equipment both in your carry-on and as checked baggage, as long as it meets the following guidelines:
Sports equipment as hand baggage
Sports equipment that is small may be brought on board as hand baggage if:
- It falls within your free hand baggage allowance
- It can be stowed away in the overhead bins or underneath the seat in front of yours
Otherwise, it must be transported as checked baggage.
Sports equipment as checked baggage
All sports equipment may be brought on board for free as checked baggage if:
- It falls within your free checked baggage allowance (number of pieces)
- It doesn’t exceed the limitations on checked baggage (weight)
Otherwise, special rates apply for the transportation of sports equipment.
Which fees apply for the transportation of sports equipment?
You can bring your winter sports equipment free of charge in addition to your free baggage allowance, if it fulfills the transport conditions for winter sports equipment. This does not apply for journeys from/to the USA, Mexico & Central America and when travelling on a Light fare.
Other sports equipment (except for long boards, hang gliding equipment and tandems) can be counted as part of your free baggage provided that the number of items and the weight do not exceed the free baggage allowance for your travel class.*
* This does not apply to the Economy Light fare.
Otherwise, special rates apply for the transportation of sports equipment.
Can’t find your type of sports equipment in the list? Then the regular fees for extra baggage apply.
These fees are only applicable on Brussels Airlines operated flights. For flights operated by codeshare partners, please check the website of our partner airlines.
