Our projects in Africa
Brussels Airlines sees it as its responsibility to operate in a sustainable manner. As we are the Africa specialist, we come into contact with less fortunate people and communities in Africa.
b.foundation for Africa
The b.foundation for Africa wants to create value for the local African society, more in particular through supporting structural health care projects and local entrepreneurs.
To this end, the b.foundation for Africa partnered up with a number of Belgian NGOs and organisations: Aviation Without Borders, Centre for Children in Vulnerable Situations, Chain of Hope, Mamas for Africa, Medics Without Vacation and Memisa. The US charities Airlink and Mercy Ships are also partners of the b.foundation for Africa.
In addition to this, Brussels Airlines supports the many charity projects and initiatives of its staff. All passengers flying long-haul are also invited to contribute to our b.foundation by putting their small change in the designated donation envelopes. With these revenues we are able to support social projects in Africa.
b.foundation for Africa has joined forces with help alliance, the Lufthansa Group aid organisation. Help alliance funds projects related to education and income generation (social entrepreneurship). Beneficiaries are children, adolescents and young adults all over the world.

Bike for Africa
The masterpiece of our b.foundation for Africa is “Bike for Africa”, a two-yearly mountain bike trip for Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa Group employees, raising funds for the cause. Bike for Africa originated in 2010 from the dream of bringing people together in a biking trip on this fascinating continent, having fun together and doing something good for the local African communities. With a group of 70 colleagues we bike across the breathtaking African countryside, challenging ourselves and living a “once in a lifetime” team experience. At the same time, we are helping those who are less fortunate.
