Poland became free of Soviet domination in 1989, after 40 years of communism. The country still has the austere atmosphere of the former Eastern Block. Nonetheless, it is an excellent destination for culture and nature lovers. Poland has a large number of castles, palaces and magnificent countryside. Northern Poland has beaches and lakes, the centre of the country is dominated by huge forests and the south is mainly mountainous.

  • Warsaw

    Warsaw, the capital of Poland, was severely damaged by bombs and shells in the Second World War. Fortunately, this has not caused the city to lose much of its grandeur.

    This historic city of Krakow is situated on the Vistula River at the foot of Wawel Hill in Little Poland region . It is the capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship since 1999; previously, it was the capital of Kraków Voivodeship from the 14th century.
