Portugal is just as sunny and beautiful as its neighbour, Spain. And just as the latter, it is an excellent holiday destination, but less overrun by tourists. Portugal is situated in southwestern Europe on the Atlantic and enjoys a mild, mediterranean climate. Portugal is split in two by the Tagus river. The northern part of the country is mountainous, rather rainy and cool, while the south is plainer, warmer and drier.
