Toulouse is almost entirely built with red brick, hence its nickname, “the pink city". The city has some magnificent sights, and is characterized by a scent of violets.
Toulouse is a city in the South of France with a population of about 600,000. It is an industrial centre with a number of important companies, such as Concorde and Airbus. The Saint-Sernin Basilica, which is the biggest Romanesque church in western Europe, is certainly worth a visit. Other sights include the St. Etienne Cathedral and the Place du Capitole, with its beautiful town hall and theatre.
While you are in Toulouse, you must certainly go for a stroll around one of the many open-air markets, which are ideal if you are looking for an unforgettable souvenir. The Hôtel de Bemuy, the Musée des Augustins and the large number of private houses built in the Renaissance style are also worth a visit. Not far from Toulouse, there is the city of Carcassonne, a magnificent mediaeval walled city.
