Denver probably conjures up images of cowboys, saloons and the open prairie, but nothing could be further from the truth. Denver is a modern city with a lot of sights.
Denver is the capital of the State of Colorado and is known for its important meat industry. The city used to be a gold and silver mining centre. Denver’s most important sights include the State Capitol, which was built in 1887 and has a gold-plated dome. There is also the Denver Mint, one of the places in America where coins are minted, and the less known Molly Brown house. Molly was the wife of a successful gold prospector. He was one of the few survivors of the Titanic disaster.
Important museums include the Denver Art Museum, with an excellent collection of Indian art, and the Museum of Western Art. The countryside and the mild climate are also important tourist attractions for Denver. The well-known Rocky Mountains are certainly well worth a visit.
